Level of Concern: Low-Moderate

Your significant other has an incredible capacity to mentally process and store select pieces of information, experiences and most of all conversations, verbatim. You, do not! This is an important concept to understand going into a relationship. Throughout the duration of your pairing, you will be mentally tested, time and time again. Expectations are high, however, the reality is that you will set the bar very low. You will be tasked with multiple daily chores, flooded with details of coworker’s relationship drama, expected to remember event dates mentioned months in advance, the list goes on and on… Your inability to remember or follow through on the afore mentioned items will ultimately lead your girlfriend to present you with the statement/ question, “remember, I told you”. To no fault of your own, you have misremembered the situation in question. By bogging your mind down with useless celebrity facts, meaningless numbers and mindless fashion trends, she has inadvertently filled the storage available for her gossip, event dates and reminders. A man’s mind scientifically is only able to store and compartmentalize Four to, five at most, types of information. And, they are very broad in nature, ‘Wants, That’s Cool, Food Near Me, Scores/ game stats’, Her stories/ shared info.

For every useless celebrity dating fact that is force fed to you, you have to remove one piece of critical information from your storage bank. She informs you that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are back together. Well, there goes the dry cleaning pickup at 3pm next Wednesday. By inundating your mind with inconsequential facts and information, your significant other is setting herself up for frustration and setting you up for failure.

Immediate Action:

Technology has come a very long way. Our phones are not only a great way to catch up on the latest game scores, but now we can throw seemingly trivial honey-do reminders onto a calendar. This allows you to keep the newest street taco location in your head and the date/ time of dinner with her parents in you phone.

Whatever you do, do NOT rely on your brain to remember her exact words pertaining to details on most events. Dates, times and locations cannot be remembered, especially during sports playoffs, new video game updates or, well, anytime. Take notes, enter calendar reminders, etc. This can save your life.
